Why we're asking now
Free support for Windows 10 ended in October 2025, and the first paid year of business security updates ended on 13 October 2026. Many small practices are replacing machines this year. We want to find out what happens to the old ones, who looks after the data on them, and whether anyone ever asks for proof that it's gone.
Who we'd like to hear from
Practices
GP, dental, vet and physio practices that hold patient records on their computers.
Solicitors and accountants
Small firms with a duty of confidentiality to their clients.
IT support firms
Local firms that look after these offices and deal with their old kit.
What we'll ask you
- The last time you got rid of old laptops or computers, what happened to them?
- What did you do about the data on them, and did anyone ask for proof?
- Are there old machines sitting in a cupboard now?
- When do you next expect to replace laptops?
- What would someone need for you to trust them with this?
What we're not doing
- We're not collecting, buying or taking away any laptops at this stage.
- We won't ask to see your systems, records or any personal data.
- We won't add you to a mailing list. If you'd rather we didn't contact you again, tell us and we won't.
